Illuminating
Do you remember when halogen lightbulbs, those cosy, warm but expensive-to-run bulbs, were banned in 2018? They went after incandescents in 2009 and halogen spotlights (GU10s) in 2016 as part of an EU-wide effort to improve energy efficiency and cut carbon emissions. After that, the only lightbulbs on the shelves would be light-emitting diodes (LEDs) but LEDs didn’t have a great press. More famous for their cold, hard, depressing light than their energy-saving credentials, these were the ultimate mood killers. How could you create any atmos? In advance of the ban we were asked to help make the case for LEDs.
We decided the best thing we could do to stop people stockpiling their halogens was tell the truth! We commissioned the very talented Ange Hart to illustrate all the benefits of LEDs in our little space-saving concertina booklet. We wanted ‘cosy’ and ‘warm’ to ooze from every page, while being full of useful information too. And Ange delivered using her whimsical and illustrative style that we love.
